Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving
By Cynthia Fredrick
Grateful for the pouring rain
Falling down on all the plane
Happy for the forest deep
Circling ‘bout the deer that leap
I love the wild running river
So cold it gives all a shiver
I’m thankful for the lilies white,
Who bless and grace those in their sight
Glad to see the mountains wide
As I’m standing by their side
Grateful for the bells that ring
Calling all the choir to sing
Satisfied with this dinner, vast
That calls to all to break their fast
Pilgrims sailed for miles to be
Nothing less than simply free
To see every kind of bird and beast
And have a great big turkey feast!

My mom has never actually said this to me, but I imaigned her saying it at 1:00 in the morning and burst out laughing. I also realized it was a haiku. I would never put it past my mom to think something similar to this sometime. In fact, I bet every mother has. Finally, notice how the more I ramble about something in a description, the more pointless I think the actual product is.

Very funny. Good contemporary use of the form.
